The PSL Scale Explained: Objective Facial Aesthetics & Scoring Decoded

Unlike standard social media ratings where nearly everyone is scored an inflated 8/10, the PSL scale applies rigorous mathematical distribution to evaluate bone structure, periorbital vectors, and facial harmony.

1. The Gaussian Distribution of Facial Aesthetics

The defining characteristic of the PSL rating system is that it strictly follows a normal Gaussian distribution curve (mean $\mu = 5.0$, standard deviation $\sigma = 1.0$).

This means that a 5.0 PSL rating is not an insult—it represents true mathematical average. In contrast, scores above 7.0 represent rare structural harmony found in fewer than 2% of the population.

Official PSL Rating Scale & Percentile Distribution

Tier DesignationPSL Score RangeStatistical PercentileKey Biometric Characteristics
Chiseled (God-Tier)8.0 – 10.0Top 0.5% (Elite)Near-perfect symmetry, ideal FWHR, positive canthal tilt, hollow cheeks
Chadlite / Model6.5 – 7.9Top 5.0% (High-Tier)Strong jaw definition, compact midface, strong orbital support
High-Tier Normie (HTN)5.5 – 6.4Top 25% (Above Avg)Pleasant harmony, minor asymmetry or neutral eye vector
Normie (Average)4.5 – 5.4Middle 50% (Baseline)Balanced, unremarkable facial features, standard proportions
Sub-Five< 4.5Bottom 25%Recessed chin, negative canthal tilt, or significant asymmetry

2. Key Biometric Pillars that Determine PSL Ratings

LetMeRate evaluates faces across three primary structural pillars:

Pillar 1: Periorbital Architecture (The Eye Area)

Eyes are the primary point of facial fixation. Key measurements include canthal tilt (+3° to +6.5°), interpupillary distance ratio (IPD), eye aspect ratio, and brow ridge projection.

Pillar 2: Bone Structure & Mandibular Contour

The jawline and lower third provide masculine or feminine dimorphism. Measured via gonial angle (120°–125° in males), chin projection index, and bizygomatic cheekbone width.

Pillar 3: Bilateral Symmetry & Proportions

Facial thirds (upper 33%, middle 33%, lower 33%), philtrum-to-chin ratios (1:2), and bilateral horizontal alignment across 478 points.
